Artist Statement
My work contains strong images, of both animals and people, often with a dark background. The strong contrast highlights even further the characteristics and emotion of each image. By emphasizing the emotion and energy of the subject matter, the viewer is drawn inward to recognize their own inner strength, a strength that exists in all, in both humans and animals.
We may not feel strong or powerful, but we are innately born with that inner strength that is not always recognized, and sometimes even shied away from. Power and strength can sometimes be frowned upon, and even considered a negative emotion, but to deny our own power is to forever live in the background, and risk a life of being ignored, overlooked or not be seen for who you truly are.
I hope my art inspires and helps you to be seen, be who you truly are, and stand out from the crowd in a positive uplifting light that shines when all around you is quiet and dark.
Throughout my art journey I am constantly evolving, learning new techniques and looking at our world with fresh eyes, awakened from the ordinary to present to you life in a different way. I love working with traditional oil paints that glide gently across the surface, like a loving caress, yet create such a depth of emotion that other mediums just can't quite live up to. Using either canvas or board, my work suits many tastes, presenting as ready to hang and all originals come with a certificate of authenticity.
Artist Biography
Eliza is a professional artist who discovered her talents in her later years, as many do once the hustle and bustle of raising children and workday life finally subside. Her talent was quickly recognized and after graduating from the Milan Mastery Program, she developed her own voice as a strong and independent artist. Her artwork combines her love of animals from growing up on a working farm in Australia and her passion for seeing the inner strength and beauty in us all. Being raised on a farm is not all sunsets and baby animals, with often the harsh reality of life and death, along with the influences from the power of Mother Nature, shaping her character into an independent and capable woman. In her early career she became a Woolclasser (wool grading) in the Australian Shearing sheds when women were few and far between. Breaking into a male dominating industry presented challenges that she had to adapt to if she was to survive. No room for wilting flowers in the Aussie bush life! She became a prominent and highly respected worker of many shearing teams, and ultimately spent several decades in an industry that once would not allow a woman to even enter the building. This very diverse lifestyle led her to have a unique view of human nature, seeing strength when all hope seemed lost, and understanding that our inner strength is what really matters. This is evident in her portraits that show beauty and strength, and her animal artworks that show powerful emotion in the natural world.
